The Olgahospital seen from the west

The Olgahospital ( "Olgäle" for short ) is a children's hospital in Stuttgart . Since May 2014 it has been located together with the women's clinic on Kriegsbergstrasse, where other hospitals of the Stuttgart Clinic are also located. It has 385 beds in 15 different organizational units or specialist departments. The clinic is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Tübingen and is considered the largest children's clinic in Germany.

It should not be confused with the Karl Olga Hospital , also located in Stuttgart , a hospital providing basic and standard care .

history

On August 9, 1842, doctors Georg von Cleß and Otto Elben opened the first children's hospital in Stuttgart. In 1849 this facility was named “Olga-Heilanstalt für Kinder” after the Württemberg Crown Princess and later Queen Olga . In 1974 the hospital, also known as "Olgäle" by the people of Stuttgart, was rebuilt at the former location in Bismarckstrasse. In 1979 it was merged with the municipal children's clinics. Since then, the hospital has been called "Olgahospital - Pediatric Center of the State Capital Stuttgart".

Since July 1, 1999, the Olgahospital has merged with the three other city hospitals, the Bürgerhospital, the Katharinenhospital and the Bad Cannstatt Hospital to form the Stuttgart Clinic . In May 2014 the hospital moved to its new domicile and has since been located, together with the women's clinic, near the Katharinenhospital at the Mitte standpoint. In October 2015 - after a delay of more than a year - the demolition of the old clinic building began. Apartments are to be built on the site.
