The Stuttgart Clinic was established on July 1, 1999 from a merger of the four city hospitals Bürgerhospital , Katharinenhospital , Bad Cannstatt Hospital and Olgahospital . It is the academic teaching hospital of the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and has around 2,000 beds and day clinic treatment places and thus over 40 percent of the hospital beds in Stuttgart. Every year, around 90,000 inpatients and 600,000 outpatients are treated at the Stuttgart Clinic. 7,000 employees work at the clinic.

Porter and management

The state capital Stuttgart is the sponsor of the economically independent non-profit municipal institution under public law . The hospital management consists of the medical board, the commercial board, the nursing director and the personnel director.

Development and future

In May 2014, the Olgahospital Children's Hospital and the Women's Clinic moved into new premises in the immediate vicinity of the Katharinenhospital at the Mitte location, and the previous clinic building was dismantled. The Bürgerhospital was integrated into the Katharinenhospital (KH) in 2015. Since then, the facilities of the Stuttgart Clinic have been concentrated on the central locations (Katharinenhospital and Olgahospital / women's clinic) and the Bad Cannstatt location with the Bad Cannstatt Hospital (KBC).

Financial situation

For the Klinkum Stuttgart there was a shortfall of almost 20 million euros in 2015; In addition, there were reserves of 7 million euros due to financially strong but not always willing hospital customers from the Middle East. In addition to high construction costs, the deficit was mainly caused by a failed business with the International Unit, which was responsible for handling foreign patients. The financial planning as of the end of 2017 provides that the deficit will be completely reduced in 2021.
