history

The foundation year of the house is 1891. The development of the Charlottenklinik für Augenheilkunde is in its beginnings firmly connected with the “Dr. Koenighöfer ´sche club eye sanatorium for the less wealthy and poor ”. An association that made it its main task to provide food for the needy. The association started its activity as early as 1883. Important members of the association were z. B. Gustav Siegle , Eduard von Pfeiffer, Paul Lechler and Luise Diefenbach . After Kommerzienrat Gustav Siegle and another unspecified sponsor had advanced the financial means, construction of a separate clinic building at Elisabethenstrasse 15 began in 1885.

In May 1889, Charlotte zu Schaumburg-Lippe , wife of the heir to the throne and later King Wilhelm II of Württemberg, took the sanatorium under her patronage. On February 19, 1891, the institution was awarded the status of a legal personality by King Karl. Queen Charlotte gave permission on January 21, 1892 to rename the clinic in "Charlottenheilanstalt für ophthalmic patients".

On July 26, 1944, the clinic was completely destroyed. The reconstructed clinic building was moved into in 1955. In 1970 the name was changed to “Charlottenklinik für ophthalmic patients”. In the summer of 2008, we moved into the new premises at Falkertstrasse 50 with a direct connection to the Diakonie-Klinikum Stuttgart . In addition, the name was changed to "Charlottenklinik für Augenheilkunde".

As a specialist clinic , the clinic looks after residents in the greater Stuttgart area . In close cooperation with the resident ophthalmologists, the complete operative spectrum of clinical care in the field of ophthalmology is offered.
