Gong Rao

The Gong Rao (in Thai ฆ้อง ราว ) is a percussion instrument from the group of idiophones and is played in the southern Isan - the northeast region of Thailand .

It consists of nine cast gong kettles of various sizes, which are hung in a row from large to small on a leather whip or a rattan frame. The player uses a wooden mallet.

Gong Rao is played within a Tum-Mong ensemble during funeral ceremonies.
