Oskar Königshöfer (born December 4, 1851 in Kaiserslautern , † April 10, 1911 in Stuttgart ) was a German-Jewish ophthalmologist.

Life

As the son of the Jewish medical officer in the Bavarian Army Theodor Königshofer, who was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors , Königshöfer studied medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander University . He was a member, later an honorary member, of the Corps Rhenania Erlangen (1873) and a member of the Erlangen Franconia III (1894). As an ophthalmologist , he founded a private ophthalmological institute in Stuttgart on July 1, 1878, and the Dr. Königshöfer'sche Verein-Augenanstalt for the less wealthy and poor . A separate clinic building was inaugurated in 1886 in the presence of the couple heir to the throne from Württemberg . With the permission of the Württemberg Queen Charlotte zu Schaumburg-Lippe , the clinic was called the Charlottenheilanstalt for eye patients from 1892 . Oskar Königshöfer directed it until his death. The Charlottenklinik Stuttgart still exists today.

As Professor (1898) and Privy Councilor (1908), Königshöfer was personal physician to Charlotte zu Schaumburg-Lippe , the last Queen of Württemberg. In 1900 he was elected to the board of the association for free choice of doctors . He succeeded in introducing the free choice of doctor in Stuttgart , which was a groundbreaking innovation for Germany. He was a member of the Stuttgart Freemason Lodge Wilhelm to the rising sun .

With his wife Betty geb. Bärlein († 1936) had four children. The daughter Margarete, born in 1887 (and baptized in 1891), was deported to Estonia by the National Socialists at the end of 1941 . Presumably she perished in a concentration camp near Riga in 1942 .
