history
Between 2001 and 2003, Atlanta was represented with a football franchise of the same name in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA). The team reached the championship play-offs in all three seasons, in 2001 and 2003 even the final. There she had to admit defeat to San Jose CyberRays and Washington Freedom respectively. With the dissolution of the championship in September 2003, the franchise also ceased to exist.
In 2008 another North American women's soccer championship was founded with the Women's Professional Soccer. Entrepreneur Fitz Johnson requested a starting place for a team from Atlanta, which was approved for the second season of the competition in 2010. In June 2009 the franchise was officially launched. Head coach Gareth O'Sullivan took up his work as early as August and put together his coaching team, and the first players were signed in September.
In the 2010 season , Atlanta Beat had no chance. In the seven-team league, the team around Tina Ellertson , Lori Chalupny , Hope Solo , Mami Yamaguchi and Johanna Rasmussen finished last.
