action

Beginning

The shy and introverted Surinder "Suri" Sahni is an office worker at "Punjab Power". He falls in love with the daughter of his former professor, the beautiful and spirited Taani Gupta, whom he sees for the first time preparing for her wedding. When they first meet, Taani jokes about Suri and blames him for making impossible demands of her father through Suri, which she was never able to fulfill as a child. A short time later, Taani's father had a heart attack when the entire wedding party learned that Taani's fiancé and his entire family were killed in a traffic accident.

Since the professor fears that Taani will be alone in the world after his death, he asks Suri if he would marry her. Suri agrees; Taani agrees with tears and only at her father's request. After a hasty wedding, Suri takes Taani home to Amritsar. While Suri treats Taani with exceptional care, he is too afraid to confess his love to her. However, Taani tells him that while she will try to be a good wife for him, she will never love him. Suri continues to try to fulfill her every wish. This includes regular visits to cinemas to watch song and dance films that spark Taani's fantasies about romance and her passion for dancing. She soon asks Suri for permission to take part in an expensive dance class. Suri allows her to go to the dance class of the dance school "Dancing Jodi".

When Suri visits the cinema, he finds that he cannot keep up with the strong, masculine actors Taani admires. Later he asks his childhood friend Balwinder "Bobby" Khosala - owner of a hairdressing salon - for advice on how to win Taani's love. Bobby tries to help him and suggests a complete change. This includes getting rid of his mustache (which Suri actually didn't want), changing his hairstyle, and giving him new clothes, including sunglasses. Suri is transformed into the loud, sometimes rude and cheerful "Raj". It is named after the hero in the film that Taani admired. He joins Taani's dance class and by chance - or, as he believes, divine intervention - becomes Taani's dance partner in a competition. Despite Raj's initial rawness - a result of Surinder's inexperience with women and his attempts to match "cool" images from movies - he and Taani become friends as they work together for the dance competition. Suri feels encouraged that Taani did not tie a ribbon around his wrist for the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which would mean that he is just like a brother to her. So after a certain time you will confess his love to Raj.

Suri's plan brings both of them into internal conflict. On the one hand, Taani wants to flee with Raj from her life, her marriage without love, but feels compelled to stay with Suri because she has given her father the promise. Suri's conflict arises from his double life: Taani is always sad as his wife, while with “Raj” she is very happy and exuberant. He tries to win love as Suri Taanis, a plan that only alienates her further. Eventually she escapes to find Raj, to ask if he can help her. He offers her to run away with her, after a brief thought, she tearfully declares that she agrees. They set the date of their escape for the next night, the night of the competition.

On the day of the competition, Suri takes Taani to the Golden Temple in Garner to ask God for his blessing for her competition, the night - and internally, also for her life with Raj. Taani asks God to show himself to her in a person she loves. The person she sees is not Raj, but Suri. For the first time she becomes aware of the strength and integrity of Suri's character. So Taani tells Raj that she can't go away with him. She leaves him and goes to the competition.

The End

When it is Taani and Raj's turn, Raj does not appear. Taani thinks he doesn't want to dance with her anymore. After a while someone comes on stage. It is not Raj, but Suri. Taani is amazed to see Suri on stage and not Raj. This is when Taani falls in love with Suri (and not Raj).

Reviews

"" Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi "is a tearful tear, with the usual tangled affairs of the heart, which are extensively sung about and danced. At the same time, this latest large sum of Indian mainstream cinema is just that - a film that contains many earlier ones, a heaven in which are intruded by many stories, a paradise made up of very earthly desires.
