Shammi Kapoor
Shammi Kapoor ( Hindi शम्मी कपूर Śammī Kapoor ; born October 21, 1931 in Bombay , British India , † August 14, 2011 in Mumbai , India ; real name Shamsher Raj Kapoor ) was an Indian film actor .
Life
He began acting in 1948 at his father Prithviraj Kapoor's Prithvi Theater . He made his film debut in Jeevan Jyoti in 1953 , but failed to achieve success in the 1950s. With a different outfit, he found his niche as a "rebellious" hero in the 1960s and thus stepped into contrast to the great mainstream actors of the Bollywood film of that time Raj Kapoor (his older brother), Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar .
With his first color film Junglee (1961) he established himself as a young star in simple entertainment films . In 1968 he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role in Brahmachari . His movies started to flop as he put on massive physical weight and he lost his image to rising new star Rajesh Khanna . However, after unsuccessful attempts as a director, Kapoor received a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhaata in 1982 .
In 1995 the computer-obsessed Shammi Kapoor founded the Internet Users Club of India (IUCI). In the same year he received the Filmfare Award / Lifetime Achievement of the Year 1994. He starred in more than 100 films.
Shammi Kapoor was part of the Kapoor acting dynasty, which also includes his younger brother Shashi Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor .
