action

Dev Saran is a successful soccer player and is unhappily married to Rhea, who does a great job at a fashion magazine. Therefore, they don't have much time together. They also have a young son named Arjun. On his wedding day, which is quite cool, he meets Maya, who is supposed to marry her childhood friend, Rishi Talwar, on this day. However, she delayed it for three years and is not sure now either. Dev encourages her and tells her that everyone is waiting for her at the wedding. Maya decides to get married after all. Meanwhile, Dev's career ends in a car accident. He will limp all his life.

Rishi and Maya are not happy in their marriage either. Because Maya cannot have children and is just a simple teacher, she feels inferior to Rishi, who is very successful in the PR industry. In addition, she is annoyed because he behaves very childishly. Rishi, on the other hand, is disappointed with her lack of passion. Rishi's father also lives with them. Despite two heart attacks and his advanced age, he still hangs around with young girls and enjoys the nightlife to the full. The only woman he was ever loyal to was Rishi's mother, who has since passed away. He meets Dev's mother at a party, and although she initially thinks he is unbearably arrogant, they become good friends.

Shortly after this party, Maya and Dev have a misunderstanding at the train station when Dev yells at his son. Due to a big misunderstanding, both end up in the hospital, where they recognize each other. They find many similarities between each other and make friends. Dev desperately struggles with a difficult relationship with Arjun, who prefers to play the violin instead of football and is otherwise not what his father wants him to be. That's why Dev keeps yelling at him, but Rhea, who works in the editorial office, doesn’t take over his mother’s role.

After the two couples have a heated argument, Dev and Maya run away from their respective partner and find each other at the train station, where Dev admits his love to Maya and confronts her with feeling the same for him. Maya doesn't want to hear about it and runs away. But eventually she gets involved in a secret affair with him. Their marriages improve for a while due to misunderstandings, but they are not happy with that. That is what Dev finally speaks out with Arjun. One day Dev's mother and Rishi's father discover Dev and Maya together and then they know what's going on. When Rishi's father has a heart attack a few days later, he knows that his life is coming to an end and asks Maya to break up with Rishi because they are making each other unhappy. Shortly afterwards he dies. Maya and Dev decide to break up and revitalize their respective marriages based on honesty.

After Rhea and Rishi have learned everything, however, they separate from Dev and Maya. But the two are unaware of the failure of the other's marriage, and so they fall apart unhappily. Only three years later, at Rishi's wedding, Maya learns that Rhea and Dev are also separated. Maya finds Dev at the train station and the two get back together.

Reviews

  • The Lexicon of International Films wrote that it was “a technically perfect Bollywood marriage drama that has caused a stir in India with its liberal stance on divorce. The view of the emotional torment of all protagonists is also convincing in this country. "
  • According to Annette Stiekele in the Hamburger Abendblatt , it is "a festival for unteachable romantics ... Bollywood just makes you happy."
  • TV Spielfilm said that nobody would be “immune to emotional eruptions”. Despite the “typical Bollywood elements”, the film has a western feel to it because of the location and the “adultery story”. The magazine also highlighted the “brightly colored dance scenes” and the “top cast”, especially Amitabh Bachchan as “sexy Sam”.
