Dharma Productions

Dharma Productions is a film company in the Bollywood film industry.

It was founded in 1976 by film producer Yash Johar in Bombay , India . After his death in 2004, his son Karan Johar continues the company.

The first film produced was Raj Khoslas Dostana in 1980 . There were many more action films . In 1998 Karan Johar made his debut as a director with the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai . This film was the biggest hit of the year in Bollywood . Karan Johar's other films that were produced under the Dharma Productions banner, such as the family dramas Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), were also very successful. In 2005 Karan Johar produced the thriller Kaal - The Secret of the Jungle together with Shah Rukh Khan . Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), in which he directed, was a huge success especially overseas. His next film, My Name Is Khan (2010), brought the popular Indian screen couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol back together after seven years . In Student of the Year (2012), Karan Johar returned to directing after two years. Newcomers Alia Bhatt , Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra made their debut in this film and despite the fact that unknown faces were cast, the film became a commercial success.
