Prakash Mehra

Prakash Mehra ( Hindi : प्रकाश मेहरा, Prakāś Mehrā ; born July 13, 1939 in Bijnaur , Uttar Pradesh ; † May 17, 2009 in New Delhi ) was an Indian film director and producer of Hindi films .

Life

In the late 1950s he was assistant to director Dhirubhai Desai on “Vishnu Cinetone”. In the 1960s he worked as a songwriter. He made his directorial debut in 1968 with Hasina Maan Jayegi . The film Zanjeer (1973), made under his own company “Prakash Mehra Prod.”, Was the first of a series of successful productions with the main actor Amitabh Bachchan . He established its image as an outsider and a lone hero of the lower class. With Bachchan, Mehra also made Lawaaris (1981) and Namak Halal (1982), two other commercially very successful Hindi films. From the mid-90s he withdrew from the film business.
