Alia Bhatt ( Hindi आलिया भट्ट Āliyā Bhaṭṭ ; born March 15, 1993 in Mumbai ) is an Indian actress and singer of commercial Hindi films . Bhatt first appeared in a small role in the film Sangharsh (1999). As an adult, she made her film debut in Karan Johar's love drama Student of the Year in 2012 .

Life

The Bhatt family has been in the film industry for several generations. Alia Bhatt is the daughter of film director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan . From the first marriage, Mahesh Bhatt has two children, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt, who are Alias ​​step-siblings. Alia has a big sister Shaheen (* 1988). Emraan Hashmi is her cousin and Mukesh Bhatt is her paternal uncle. Alia Bhatt has German roots: her grandmother Gertrude Hoelzer lives in Berlin and Bhatt feels emotionally connected to this city. Her grandfather fled to London during the Nazi era after spending two years in prison for publishing an underground newspaper.

Six-year-old Alia Bhatt was seen in Sangharsh in 1999 as the younger Preity Zinta and made her adult debut with the romantic film Student of the Year (2012) by Karan Johar , in which she appeared alongside two other newcomers, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra . She played the role of the superficial Shanaya Singhania, who is in a relationship with Varun Dhawan's character Rohan Nanda but is attracted to Sidharth Malhotra's character Abhimanyu Singh. The film became a commercial hit and earned the three cast members tons of good reviews. They received many awards and were called promising youngsters. In her next film Highway (2014), Alia Bhatt played the role of the kidnapped Veera Tripathi, who developed Stockholm Syndrome . In 2 States (2014), which is based on the novel of the same name, she starred alongside Arjun Kapoor . Bhatt learned another language for her role. Ananya Swaminatham is Tamil and studies in the north. There she meets the student Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor), who comes from Punjab and wants to marry Ananya. Because of prejudices, the parents of those willing to marry come to an argument. Together they try to solve the conflicts. The film received critical acclaim, many awards, and a super hit status. Her third film in 2014 was Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, a romantic comedy starring her co-partner from Student of the Year Varun Dhawan . Kavya's father plans an arranged wedding for his daughter to his friend's son, who lives in America. Kavya agrees to his father's decision with one condition. She wants to wear a designer dress to her wedding. Kavya's father has enough money, but doesn't want to buy her expensive dress. Determined to earn money, Kavya goes to her uncle in Delhi to earn some money. There she meets Humpty Sharma, who falls in love with her and wants to marry her. Together they convince Kavya's father that Humpty would be a better man for his daughter. It is a tribute film to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that has been in theaters since 1995.
