action

Naina Kapur lives in New York with her mother, grandmother and siblings . Since her father took his own life, the family has been out of balance both financially and personally. Naina is forced to mediate between her quarrelsome grandmother and depressed mother, to look after her younger siblings and to supervise the finances at the same time. With all the efforts to keep her family together, there is little time for her very own life. Hobbies and parties seem like a foreign word to them. But Naina has submitted to her fate and lives a joyless but disciplined life. Her college friend Rohit, a charming would-be womanizer, and the excited friend Sweetu are her only distraction, but they are rarely able to free them from their deep sadness.

All of a sudden, Naina's neighbor Aman appears in her life like a relief. He is bursting with joie de vivre and has made it into his head to give Naina some of it. However, his first attempts fail. He wins the hearts of the rest of the family with ease, but Naina is stubborn. Only a boisterous visit to the disco will the ice timidly melt. Aman notices that Rohit develops feelings for Naina. He gets it into his head to bring the two together to make Naina's happiness perfect. Naina, however, has already been enchanted by Aman's energy and has fallen head over heels in love with him. But this one seems to have a deep secret that keeps the two separate from each other. After Naina offends Rohit with her confession of love for Aman and wants to take a step on Aman, he tells her that he has been married for three years. Naina's newly gained vitality seems to be gone and the world collapses for her. But Aman is also devastated because his painful revelation was a lie. In truth, he has a heart condition and only has a few weeks to live. His last wish is to bring Naina together with Rohit.

Naina is slowly finding herself again. And Rohit too, with Aman's support, is taking new courage. They forge a plan: Rohit first gives Naina the cold shoulder and then confronts her with his feelings. It seems to be working and the two are getting closer. But Aman suffers more than he'd like to admit, and Naina's heart still belongs to him. Nevertheless, Naina accepts Rohit's marriage proposal.

Meanwhile, the family situation of the Kapurs comes to a head. The grandmother berates her daughter-in-law and adoptive granddaughter for being responsible for the death of her son. But Aman clarifies with a secret letter: Naina's father took his own life because he could not bear that his wife forgave him an affair and also adopted his illegitimate daughter. This revelation dissolves the grandmother's bitterness and brings the family back together. So they put all their energy into the wedding preparations.

Rohit and Naina's fulminant engagement party ends tragically: Aman collapses unnoticed and is taken to hospital. Meanwhile, Naina finally learns the truth about Aman: When she happens to meet Aman's supposed wife, she hears about his serious illness and the dizziness is blown. But despite all the emotional confusion, the hopelessness allows only one painful but sensible decision: Naina marries Rohit.

A short time later, Aman left his powers. Naina, Rohit and his friends and relatives say goodbye to him in the hospital with great sadness. With the last of his strength, Aman Rohit wrestles one last promise: In the next and in every subsequent life, Naina should belong to him.

20 years have passed and Naina and Rohit have a very happy marriage and even have a daughter.
