In Halbemond there is the Motodrom Halbemond , in which speedway races (motorcycle racing) take place. The German motor sportsman Egon Müller became the first and so far only German speedway world champion there on September 4, 1983.

Surname

The place name Halbemond probably goes back to an incorrect Germanization of the East Frisian Halvemaanland (Half Allmendeland ). Another interpretation of the name derives from the crescent shape of the village.
