action

Zooni Ali Beg is a blind girl who lives in Kashmir . Despite her blindness, she wants to travel to Delhi with her friends in order to find a partner there. Her mother Nafisa is very happy, but her father Zulfiqer is initially skeptical, but then lets her go. When she arrived in Delhi, she met the tour guide Rehan Qadri. Her friends still warn her, but she falls in love with him. As a result, she spends some time with him and gets to know him better, but Rehan has a big secret that he hides from Zooni.

Zooni, who eventually spends one night with Rehan, wants to marry him. In turn, Rehan falls in love with Zooni and accompanies her to an ophthalmologist in the hope that Zooni can see after an operation. Zooni wants Rehan to invite friends to her wedding and pick up her parents from the train station. After the eye operation in Delhi, Zooni can finally see. She then learns that a terrorist attack by the Kashmiri independence fighters IKF was carried out during the operation. The perpetrator is wanted everywhere. In the hospital, Zooni is said to identify some objects from Rehan's possession, who is said to have been near the attack. Shortly afterwards, Rehan, the wanted terrorist, can be seen entering an airport with a different appearance.

After eight years, Rehan stands in front of her door, seriously injured in uniform. She does not recognize him and takes him into her parents' house. Because of his serious injuries and a heavy snow storm in Kashmir, he spends a few days with her family. She now has a seven-year-old son whom she fondly calls Rehan. Her mother Nafisa passed away a few years ago. Zooni feels close to the soldier as he reminds her of her Rehan until he reveals himself to her. And then the game of confusion only seems to start, because Rehan is fighting as a terrorist for the freedom of Kashmir and is on his last mission.

Rehan's last mission is to hand over an atomic bomb detonator to his grandfather in order to extort the independence of Kashmir. The media are constantly warning of the terrorists and calling on people to alert the police if they suspect them. Zooni's father, Zulfiqer, happens to be following the news too, but does not suspect Rehan.

With the phone lines dead, Rehan has no contact with his grandfather. By chance he learns that a friend of Zulfiqer's has a radio station that can be contacted by radio. When they want to leave for this, Zulfiqer discovers the detonator for the atomic bomb in Rehan's backpack and he immediately realizes that Rehan is the terrorist he is looking for. Only after the two of them get out of the car does Zulfiqer confront Rehan. In this argument, Zulfiqer falls unhappy down the mountain and dies. Rehan tries to contact his grandfather and arranges a meeting point to hand over the detonator. Then he kills a friend of Zulfiqr.

Unsuspecting, Zooni fetches water from the river with her son and discovers her father's body. At home, Rehan explains to her that her father is staying with his boyfriend. Zooni is confused and shocked because Rehan lied to her. Weeping, she takes her son and drives to her father's friend, whom she also finds dead. She alerts the anti-terrorist unit via the radio station, which assures her that Rehan is the terrorist they are looking for. They promise her that they will leave immediately.

Rehan has followed her and tries to explain the whole truth to her, but Zooni doesn't trust him, even though she still loves him. After hearing a helicopter, Rehan runs out because he wants to give the detonator to his grandfather. Zooni follows him with a gun and tries to stop Rehan. At the same time, the anti-terrorist unit also arrives by helicopter. Zooni shoots Rehan and hits him so that he cannot get up. Meanwhile, the unit shoots Rehan's grandfather's helicopter, which explodes and crashes. Crying, Zooni runs to Rehan, who is badly injured on the floor. He apologizes to Zooni and dies in her arms.

criticism

... stone-softening entanglements, deepened by five catchy songs, entertaining and is quite suitable to expand western-centered viewing habits in its carefree otherness - especially because the hero couple is so hearty and grandiose with two of the most credible Bollywood top stars: Aamir Khan (" Rang De Basanti ") and with Kajol (" Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge "), who is celebrating a great comeback after a long absence from the screen. -Ilse Henckel, SpiegelOnline, 2007
