Tabassum Hashmi

Tabu ( Hindi तब्बू Tabbū ; born November 4, 1970 in Hyderabad , Andhra Pradesh ; real name: Tabassum Hashmi ) is an Indian film actress of Hindi films .

Life

With a few exceptions, Tabu is best known for portraying characters in artistic films on a low budget who, although praised by film critics, do not make a lot of money (such as in MF Husain's Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities or Maqbool ).

She is the niece of Shabana Azmi and the younger sister of actress Farha .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Awards

Tabu has won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice - once for Maachis (1996) and for Chandni Bar (2001). She has also won three Filmfare Awards for Best Performance for Virasat (1997), Hu Tu Tu (1999), and Astitva (2000) and the 1995 Filmfare Award for Best Newcomer . In 2014 Tabu won the Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actress in Haider, which is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Hamlet .
