Kirron Kher ( Panjabi ਕਿਰਨ ਖੇਰ , Hindi किरण खेर , Kiran Kher , also Kiron Kher, Anupam Kher Kirron * 14. June 1955 in Punjab ) is an Indian actress , TV presenter and politician .

Personal

Kirron Kher was born on June 14, 1955 into a Sikh family from Punjab and grew up in Chandigarh . Kher was first married to Gautam Berry , a businessman and actor, with whom she has a son, Sikander Kher . In 1985 she divorced Berry and married Anupam Kher , also an actor. Kirron Kher originally wrote her family name in the Latin alphabet Kiron , but changed the spelling to Kirron for numerological reasons .

Acting career

Kiron Kher hosted three TV programs, Purushkshetra , Kiron Kher Today and Jagte Raho with Kiron Kher , before she finally got into Hindi films : For her role in Devdas with Shahrukh Khan , Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai , she was awarded in the Best Supporting Actress category , nominated for the Filmfare Award . Although she took a fifteen-year hiatus (1981-1996) to raise her son Sikander and made only one film during that time ( Pestonjee , 1988), she worked as Anupam Khers costume designer and worked on the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge . At the 2003 Locarno International Film Festival she was awarded the Bronze Leopard for Khamosh Pani - Silent Waters . In October 2004 she had a guest role in the US medical series Emergency Room with her husband Anupam Kher.

politics

Kirron Kher has been a member of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2009 . In the parliamentary elections in India in 2014 , she ran as a candidate for the BJP in the Chandigarh constituency . She defeated the candidate of the Congress Party , the Federal Minister Pawan Kumar Banswal , and was able to move into the Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament.
