Locarno Film Festival / Leopard - Best Actress
The Leopard for the best actress ( Italian Pardo per la miglior interpretazione femminile ) honors the best acting performance of a leading or supporting actress in a competition film at the Locarno Film Festival, which is held annually . Such an award was first given at the first edition of the festival in 1946. The competition jury, which is mostly composed of international filmmakers, votes on the award of the prize, which has been presented to the winner in the form of a silver leopard statuette since 2006.
Prize winners
French, Italian and American film actresses (four wins each) were awarded the most frequent actor's prize. The Italian Valeria Bruni Tedeschi (1993 and 1996) and the US American Holly Hunter (2003 and 2005) both triumphed twice .
Several times in the past, the jury was unable to agree on a winner, while in 2005 and 2015 the entire female acting ensemble of a film was honored. In 2000, Sabine Timoteo ( L'Amour ) was the only Swiss actress to prevail over the competition.
