Amy Frederica Brenneman (born June 22, 1964 in New London , Connecticut ) is an American actress . She was best known for her lead role in the series For All Cases Amy, which she devised and produced, and for her role as Violet Turner in the television series Private Practice .

Life

Brenneman was born in 1964 as the third child of a judge and a lawyer . She successfully completed her studies in religious studies at Harvard University in 1987.

She initially worked in the theater and made her first appearance in a television series in 1992. She had her breakthrough with the series NYPD Blue , in which she played the role of officer Janice Licalsi from 1993 to 1994 . During filming, she met the director Brad Silberling , with whom she has been married since 1995 and has two children (* 2001, 2005).

From the mid-1990s she also took on roles in movies. She was seen alongside Robert De Niro in Heat and alongside Sylvester Stallone in a leading role in the film Daylight .

In 1999 she created and produced the successful family series For All Cases, Amy , in which she herself played the lead role of Amy Gray . According to her own statements, her character was strongly influenced by Brenneman's mother as well as by her own experiences from her childhood. The series ran in the US for six seasons and brought the broadcaster CBS good ratings . Amy Brenneman has received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

From 2007 to the end of the 2013 series, Brenneman played the role of psychiatrist Dr. Violet Turner in the Private Practice series . From 2014 to 2017 she played Laurie Garvey in the series The Leftovers .
