Downloading Nancy is an American thriller from the year 2008 . It was directed by Johan Renck and the script was written by Pamela Cuming and Lee Ross .

action

Borderliner Nancy was abused as a child, suffocated in a feeble marriage with the emotional icicle Albert, and cut her arms and legs to at least feel something through the pain. One day Nancy sets off to Baltimore without saying goodbye to be murdered by the perverted Louis, while her husband at home refuses to admit that he has been abandoned. Louis of all people falls in love with Nancy, but for whom love means pain. Nevertheless, Louis finally fulfills Nancy's greatest wish and visits her husband Albert, to whom he tells this story during the course of the film.

The film ends with Albert watching videos from the news, recorded years after Nancy's death, of Nancy's death and Louis serving a life sentence for the murder of Nancy. Albert has started to scratch himself and is now visiting a psychologist himself because of his feelings of guilt.

Reviews

Todd McCarthy wrote on January 23, 2008 in the online edition of Variety magazine that the film was a work of "morbid psychological sadomasochism " . It seems more like a European film than an independent film from the USA. Its commercial prospects are - at least in the United States - "less than zero" .

Awards

The film took part in the Sundance Film Festival 2008 as a competition entry, whereby Johan Renck was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

backgrounds

The film was in Los Angeles , in Shreveport ( Louisiana ) and Regina ( Saskatchewan turned). Its production amounted to an estimated 3 million US dollars . The world premiere took place on January 21, 2008 at the Sundance Film Festival . Renck recorded the title song Into my arms with his compatriot Joakim Berg .
