action

France 1557: 15-year-old Mary Stuart has been engaged to Francis, heir to the throne of France, since she was six. She comes to the French court with her ladies-in-waiting Lola, Kenna, Greer and Aylee to marry young Francis . At court, Mary not only struggles with the political changes, but also with the sexual, scheming power games. In addition, she has to grapple with the burgeoning feelings for Francis and his half-brother Sebastian. Mary's ladies-in-waiting also have to sort out their problems with love and men.

Meanwhile, Francis 'mother, Catherine de' Medici , tries to prevent her son's upcoming marriage because her adviser Nostradamus had a vision that the marriage between Francis and Mary would lead to his son's death.

season 1

Queen Mary arrives at the French court after a failed poison attack and is supposed to be the future wife of Prince Francis, to whom she has been promised since childhood. Francis initially tries to distance himself from Mary as he is unsure whether the alliance with Scotland is best for France. But the longer Mary is at court, the more he falls in love with her. Her ladies-in-waiting also try love at court. Lady Lola's love affair follows her from Scotland and is allegedly executed after an unsuccessful rape attempt commissioned by the Queen, but is able to flee into the forest, where he becomes the victim of a ritual. Bash, the king's bastard, finds him and wants to end these rituals. Lady Kenna, another lady-in-waiting, becomes the king's mistress, but not for long, as she quickly pushes the king away with her jealousy as he continues to visit his old mistress Diane. Greer is Mary's richest lady-in-waiting, but has no title. Therefore, she is supposed to marry a noble man, which turns out to be difficult because, after a failed date, she lost her heart to a kitchen boy named Leith. Lady Aylee, the youngest lady-in-waiting, dies after a poison cocktail, she is poisoned by the "ghost" Clarissa and pushed off the railing to save Mary.

The Queen has vowed to kill Mary because Nostradamus prophesied that her son Francis would die should he marry Mary. When Mary learns of this vision, she calls off the wedding with Francis and suggests that the king have the bastard Bash legitimized in order to marry him instead. Queen Catherine is then arrested and is said to be beheaded for not agreeing to annul the marriage. Francis leaves the courtyard unsuspecting. Mary and Bash fall in love, but the queen's intrigues have made Bash difficult to gain recognition at court. Mary suggests that a wedding force the Vatican to legitimize it, and Bash agrees. Before they can get married, Francis returns to court after spending the night with Lola to save his mother. This knows the new vision of Nostradamus. This has changed through the death of the ghost Clarissa, since it turns out that she was the Queen's first child and was cast out by her because she was born through an affair and inherited a cut-off birthmark on the cheek from the original father. The queen manages to avert the execution and Francis and Mary get married. Bash is ostracized and thus regains his goal of preventing the sacrificial ritual and finding and finding the culprit for it. But he needs help from the king and Francis.

On the day of the wedding, Nostradamus' vision changes and he sees death again for Francis in the first year of marriage, which he hides. Because this only comes about because he learns that Clarissa is still alive. The king is now more and more confused, kills his bedmates and instigates wars and battles he cannot win, which forces Francis to go to war. Greer meets Aloisius in the meantime and becomes engaged to him, because their true love, Leith, had to go to war after their affair became known. The king is getting crazier and crazier and married under duress to Bash and Kenna, who initially dislike each other but gradually learn to love each other. Lola is pregnant after Francis' love night and decides to have the child, a boy. But she decides against officially calling herself a mistress. During his absence, the king wants to marry Mary and kill Francis. But Francis gets ahead of him and kills King Henry unrecognized in a lance tournament.

season 2

After the plague broke out and Bash killed the Shadow, the country suffers from famine and countless deaths. Among the dead is the son of Lord Narcisse, the main grain supplier. He swears revenge when he finds out that, behind Francis' back, Mary and Nostradamus put his son, who was completely healthy, in a cell with plague sufferers and he died as a result. He blackmailed Mary and Francis. Nostradamus is to be executed, and only a trick can prevent this. Finally he manages to escape. Mary and Francis are crowned. Francis swears to her that they will rule together and change things. But Lord Narcisse continues to blackmail Francis because he finds out through a ruse that Francis killed King Henry during the tournament. Mary does not know about this and continues to try to rule justly. But Francis is forced by the blackmail to pass a law that turns the pagans and followers of Luther into heretics and gives the Catholics the power to execute or convert them, which ends in a war between the two sides. Francis pushes Mary more and more away in order not to endanger her, and also uses the disappointment that Mary had a miscarriage and still has not produced an heir.

The Queen Mother Catherine is now acting in the background so that the people do not completely forget. She buys grain on her own account, which she secretly sells to villages. But she too has hallucinations and sees her dead twin daughters, with whom she speaks regularly and who were murdered by her older sister. This also returns to the court, but according to her mother should disappear again as soon as possible, since she only brings trouble with her constant love affairs, including Bash. Greer is still engaged to Aloisius, despite Leith, who now lives in the country himself and has followers. Leith warns them about the wedding, because Aloisius is a Protestant and both are in mortal danger. But since he is generous to her and her sisters with the dowry , and her father is penniless, she marries him. Catherine and Mary are on the run. While driving the carriage, it is attacked by an angry mob. In order to remain undetected, they hide their identities only to meet impostors who pretend to be the King and Queen of France. A royal guard is behind the hoax on orders from the Queen of England. Lola feels more and more drawn to Lord Narcisse and refuses to support Francis in order to betray the Lord. Always trying to end the conflict between religions, Mary suggests that the Catholic Princess Claude and the Protestant Louis Condé, Francis' cousin, marry. King Francis and Bash are looking for Montgomery, the rider Francis' father should have ridden against. In her absence, the castle is attacked by Protestants who make it to Mary's bedchamber. Francis returns and decides to rule with a tougher hand. The result is the arrest of hundreds of Protestants, including Mary's tormentors. Without finding peace, Queen Mary and Louis Condé go on a search for themselves. When found, the men face bloody vengeance. Catherine tries to poison her daughter in order to get retribution for her dead twin daughters. Greer tries to clear away any evidence she and her husband may be linking to the Protestant attack on the castle. Her husband's donated money, which should have been used to finance the construction of a school, was used for the attack. Condé can no longer hide his feelings for Mary. Mary's mother is terminally ill and she wants no more than a grandson. The marriage between Francis and Mary is no longer the same. After a long time she admits to reciprocating Condé's feelings.

She has to annul her marriage in order to marry him. She now earns her money as a pimp. Catherine learns of this betrayal and confesses it to her son, who collapses. The King of France is terminally ill and his wife is faced with a difficult decision.

Bash meets Delphine, a young healer who saved his life. On his journey he meets Clarissa and, convinced that her death could save Francis' life, he kills her. Mary ends her relationship with Condé to stay with her husband. Kenna and Bash want to end their marriage, she met General Renaude and started an affair with him. Condé, who secretly married the Queen of England, is on the run. Someone destroyed all evidence of the marriage. Elisabeth's troops come to support and he plans an attack on the castle.

Mary doesn't want bloodshed, so she sneaks out and goes to Condé. Determined that her daughter-in-law betrayed them all, Catherine is unaware that Mary was pursuing her own plan. She manages to gain Condé's trust and, with Greer's help, managed to disperse Condé's men. She stabs the confused Condé, who survives and is locked away in the dungeon of the castle. Cruel news shakes the king, and the betrayal of a blood relative makes him and Mary grow closer.
