Antoine de Bourbon, duc de Vendôme (German: Anton von Bourbon , Duke of Vendôme ) (born April 22, 1518 - November 17, 1562 in Les Andelys , Duchy of Normandy ) was the first Prince of the Blood to be one of the highest-ranking members of the French royal family and as husband of the Queen of Navarre ( Lower Navarre ) since 1555 Titular King of Navarre.

Life

He was the eldest son of Duke Charles de Bourbon, duc de Vendôme, and in 1548 married Jeanne d'Albret , the daughter and heiress of Henry II of Navarre.

Henry IV of France was his second son. With his brother Louis I de Bourbon , he was the leader of the Huguenot -bourbonischen compound against the Guises , but was arrested and only after the death of Francis II. Freed (on 5 December 1560) and by the heads of Catholicism to fall away from moved his co-religionist. Anton then became governor-general of the empire, joined the Catholic triumvirate of Duke François de Lorraine, duc de Guise , the Connétable of Montmorency and the Marshal of Saint-André, fought against the Huguenots, captured Bourges and besieged Rouen in 1562 .
