Henry II , called Henri d'Albret (born April 18, 1503 in Sangüesa , † May 29, 1555 in Hagetmau ) was the titular king of Navarre . He was the eldest son of Jean d'Albret and Catherine of Navarre , the sister and heiress of King Franz Phoebus of Navarre. Catherine gave birth to Heinrich II in the so-called Palacio de los Sebastianes in Sangüesa , i.e. in the house of the Navarre family Sebastián. The house still exists today at Calle Mayor 56, and the facade bears, among other things, the coat of arms of the Sebastián family and a plaque commemorating Henry II.

When Catherine died in exile in 1517, Henry took over her claims to Navarre, which King Ferdinand II of Aragón had long denied. Under the protection of Francis I of France , he assumed the title of King of Navarre.

After unsuccessful consultations in Noyon in 1516 and Montpellier in 1518, an active attempt was made in 1521 to establish him de facto as ruler. However, the French troops occupying the country were eventually driven out by the Spanish.

In 1525 Heinrich was captured in the battle of Pavia , from which he managed to escape. In 1526 he married Margaret , the sister of Francis I and widow of Duke Charles IV of Alençon . The daughter of Heinrich and Margarete was his successor Johanna III -  Jeanne d'Albret , the mother of the later King Henry III of Navarre. and French King Henry IV.
