Amber Rose Tamblyn (born May 14, 1983 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American actress who had her breakthrough with the title role of Joan Girardi in the television series The Heavenly Joan .

Life

Tamblyn is the daughter of actor Russ Tamblyn . She came to the California theater school Smash at the age of five and was discovered in a school performance in the role of Pippi Longstocking for Hollywood at the age of nine , which soon earned her the recurring role of Emily in the US soap opera General Hospital . This was followed by other guest appearances in television series such as Buffy - The Vampire Slayer or Without a Trace - Vanished without a trace .

Her breakthrough came in 2001 with the title role in the CBS series The Heavenly Joan , the first season of which was number one on the US series ratings list in the year it was first broadcast. Tamblyn's father was also seen in three episodes in the series.

In 2004 she was nominated for her role in The Heavenly Joan for the Golden Globe and the Golden Satellite Award (Category: Best Actress in a Series ) and received the Saturn Award for Best Actress on US TV .

At the International Film Festival of Locarno , she received the 2006 Best Actor Award for her role in the film Stephanie Daley .
