Drunk History is an American comedy series by Derek Waters, which has been broadcast on the US broadcaster Comedy Central since July 9, 2013 , which is based on the 2007 Funny or Die Web series. The series is a kind of anthology series in which the presenter Derek Waters is told an event from history by a drunken celebrity in each episode. The historical roles are played by other celebrities while the narrator speaks their part.

The series has been nominated for numerous awards, including 14 Primetime Emmy Awards , one of which it won in 2015. In August 2019, Comedy Central's Drunk History was renewed for a seventh season.

The idea for the show came from a drunken conversation between Derek Waters and his good friend the actor Jake Johnson . While drunk, Johnson told a story about singer Otis Redding , who was killed in a plane crash in 1967. Waters loved the story and the idea of ​​filming and recreating a drunk person who is retelling a historical story and having actors act out the story.

The series has aired on Comedy Central since July 9, 2013 . Before that, the series ran on Funny or Die from 2007 to 2010 . The then first episode was released on August 6, 2007 with Jake Johnson, Derek Waters and the actors Michael Cera and Ashley Johnson .
