Elizabeth Chase Olsen (* 16th February 1989 in Sherman Oaks , California ) is an American actress .

Elizabeth Olsen is the daughter of Jarnette (née Jones) and David Olsen, banker and property developer. She has an older brother and is the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen . After graduating from Campbell Hall School in 2007 , she studied acting with the Atlantic Theater Company and attended the Tisch School of the Arts .

Her first appearance was in 1994 in the feature film Adventure on the Whitewater Ranch . In 2011 she took on the lead role in the horror film Silent House. In the same year she received very good reviews for her portrayal of Martha in Martha Marcy May Marlene . For this role, she was nominated for several awards, including the Saturn Award and Satellite Award . She also received an award for Most Promising Performer from the Chicago Film Critics Association . The Los Angeles Film Critics Association honored her and the other leading actors as Best Newcomers .

In Red Lights (2012) she played alongside Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver . Since 2014 she has been in the role of Scarlet Witch , also known as Wanda Maximoff, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe . As such, she appeared in The Return of the First Avenger , 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron , 2016 The First Avenger: Civil War , 2018 Avengers: Infinity War, and 2019 Avengers: Endgame . She will also take on this role in the planned Disney + series WandaVision and in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness .

In the thriller Wind River by Taylor Sheridan , who as part of the Jan. 21, 2017 Film Festival Sundance premiered, Olsen played the lead role of an FBI agent.

In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
