Taylor Sheridan is an American film actor , director, and screenwriter who was nominated for an Academy Award at the 2017 Academy Awards for his work in Hell or High Water .

life and career

Sheridan grew up on a ranch in Cranfills Gap, Texas, which his family eventually lost. He moved to California to become an actor and made his debut as a supporting actor in an episode of the television series Walker, Texas Ranger in 1995 . After almost 13 years in smaller roles, Sheridan played the non-corruptible Deputy Chief David Hale in 21 episodes of the series Sons of Anarchy between 2008 and 2010 .

With the 2015 film Sicario about the war against Mexican drug cartels, Sheridan made his debut as a screenwriter. His second film Hell or High Water , directed by David Mackenzie , was also a success. Sheridan took on the supporting role of a cowboy. The screenplay for the film, in which Sheridan weaves classic western motifs into a story from the present, was hailed by critics as one of the best of the 2016 film year. Sheridan has received multiple awards for this and has been nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Screenwriter .

Sheridan wrote the screenplay for Hell or High Water back in 2010, even before Sicario , and sent it directly to the Black List , the list of Hollywood's most popular non-film scripts. It was accepted and sold, which was Sheridan's breakthrough as a screenwriter. However, the production of the film was delayed several times. In the meantime, Sheridan wrote and sold the script for Sicario , which was then produced first.

Sheridan made his directorial debut in 2017 with Wind River , for which he in turn wrote the script. According to Sheridan, the motivation for Wind River was the countless incidents of sexual violence against women on the US Indian reservations.

As a screenwriter, Sheridan most recently worked on Sicario 2 , which hit theaters in 2018, and with Michael Koryta on Those Who Wish Me Dead , a thriller he also directed and which is due to hit theaters in October 2020.

At the end of June 2017, Sheridan was appointed a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . Sheridan has been the screenwriter, producer and director for the Yellowstone series, which was released on Paramount Network on June 20, 2018, since 2017 .
