The Hörnauer Wald nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Schweinfurt Basin in the Schweinfurt district . With around 181 hectares, the area is the largest nature reserve in the district and is also designated as FFH area DE-6027-372 nature reserve Hörnauer Wald . This makes it part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .

history

The area was placed under protection in 1994.

Geography and geology

The Hörnau Forest is a near-natural, mesophilic to moist forest with interspersed wet areas and alluvial forest areas. The area is managed through the use of medium-sized forests and has a notable oak population, which, like other oak populations in the area, has been decimated by diseases and pests since 2009. The area includes extensively used grassland on the edge.
