The Riedholz and Grettstädter Wiesen nature reserve is a 1982 designated nature reserve in the communities of Schwebheim , Kolitzheim and Grettstadt in the Bavarian district of Schweinfurt .

history

The area of the Grettstädter Meadows has been known among botanists as the “Grettstadt Relic Area” since the beginning of the 20th century. However, the moor areas of the area were largely drained in the course of the 20th century, at the turn of the millennium only three smaller, non-connected areas in the Grettstädter meadows were preserved as biotopes.

Geology and geography

The area is a partly boggy meadow and the alluvial forest "Riedholz" in the largely tree-free Schweinfurt basin along the Unkenbach . A nature trail runs through the nature reserve.

Flora and fauna

Both the meadows and the alluvial forest are rich in orchids and other native orchids such as the lady's slipper .
