The nature reserve Garstadter Holz is a nature reserve in the district of Garstadt in the district of Schweinfurt . It borders directly on the nature reserve Garstadt bird sanctuary and extension of the Garstadt bird sanctuary and is bordered on the other sides by the Main and the site of the Grafenrheinfeld nuclear power plant .
history
The reserve was placed under protection in 1982 and consists mainly of hardwood alluvial forests between the Main and the Garstadter lakes, an extensive former gravel quarry with six larger and a number of smaller ponds, most of which are also designated as nature reserves.
Flora and fauna
In the hardwood alluvial forest of the protected area, among other things, different species of woodpecker and the collar snapper live .
The protected area is an important reservoir for the native European black poplar, which is threatened by hybridization . After initially the only two known poplars in the vicinity were confirmed as European black poplars with the help of a genetic analysis, 45 black poplars each were planted at four locations in Garstadter Holz at the beginning of 2016.
