The nature reserve Naturwaldreservat Zwerchstück is a nature reserve and natural forest reserve in a community-free area near Michelau in the Steigerwald in the district of Schweinfurt . Due to the designation as a natural forest reserve, any forestry use of the forest is prohibited in this area. The area is listed in Bavaria as "Naturwaldreservat 152".

The protected area was placed under protection by the authorities in January 1998.

Geography and geology

The natural forest reserve is geologically at the transition from the Franconian plate to the Steigerwald on a moderately fresh, in places moderately dry plateau of Lettenkeuper , which is bordered by freshly-fresh depressions in the north and south. The protected area lies within the area under discussion for a future Steigerwald National Park .

Flora and fauna

The natural forest reserve is a typical oak and hornbeam forest , hardly influenced by humans, with an admixture of service tree , field maple and service tree . Beech , sycamore and ash can be found on the steep ditch slopes that dominate the north, east and south of the area .
