The Sulzheimer Gipshügel nature reserve is a nature reserve and a designated geotope near Sulzheim , in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt in Bavaria .

location

The nature reserve is located about 1.6 kilometers northeast of Sulzheim at about 218 m above sea level. NHN.

description

Plaster digestion

The area lies on both sides of the Unkenbach . The waves and bumps formed by the karstified gypsum rock under a thin, water-permeable soil layer can be seen on almost the entire surface.

The Sulzheimer gypsum hills are of ecological importance as a location for rare flora communities (especially postglacial steppe vegetation). Due to the karst and dry subsoil, a dry grassland area ( steppe heath ) has been preserved here as a relic of post-glacial steppe vegetation, which, with its rare plant and animal species, was placed under nature protection on July 5, 1979.

It originated here by Gipslaugung and Subrosion sinkholes and sinkholes and mushroom-shaped Härtlinge of gypsum stone and Grottschichten. The Subrosionslandschaft is from the Bavarian State Office for Environment reported as geoscientific valuable Geotop (678R005). It is one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria.

The area is accessed by a circular route that begins at the Gips Information Center in Sulzheim .

Flora and fauna

As a location for rare flora communities, the area is of great ecological importance. Adonis , pasque flower and grape hyacinth bloom in the spring months .

history

The protected area was placed under protection by the authorities on 1979.
