The nature reserve Vogelschutzgebiet Garstadt is a nature reserve located near Heidenfeld, municipality of Röthlein and Garstadt , municipality of Bergrheinfeld in the district of Schweinfurt .
history
The reserve includes the large pond of a former gravel pit and was placed under protection in 1988. In 2001, with the adjacent nature reserve " Extension of the Garstadt bird sanctuary ", further ponds and bank areas were placed under protection.
Flora and fauna
The lakes of the bird sanctuary emerged from an economically used sand and gravel mining area. The gravel mining created a lake plateau with wetlands, alluvial forests, meadows and reed areas, which offers plenty of space for the bird world. More than 270 bird species have been sighted so far. Breeding birds in the area include partridge , little bittern , purple heron , turncoat , gray-headed woodpecker , middle spotted woodpecker , warbler , collared flycatcher , nightingale and Bluethroat .
