Mesophilia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mesophilia (from ancient Greek μέσος mésos "medium" and φίλος phílos "loving") is the property of living beings to prefer medium, non-extreme environmental conditions, especially when it comes to temperature and humidity . Living things with this property are called mesophilic . In microbiology , mesophilic refers almost exclusively to temperature, although that limitation is not expressed in the word.

Medium temperature

Organisms that thrive best at temperatures between around 20 and 45 ° C are known as mesophilic. Most of the microorganisms belong here. Living things that prefer higher temperatures are called thermophilic , those who prefer lower temperatures are called psychrophilic .

Medium humidity

Mesophilic is the name given to living beings that love moderate humidity, and biotope types that have this. In nature conservation, a number of biotopes are of particular importance according to the FFH guidelines , such as mesophilic meadow forms .
