Jürgen Gerdes (2017)

Jürgen Gerdes (* 1964 ) is a German manager . He was a member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post AG until June 12, 2018 .

Life

After studying at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster (degree: Diplom-Kaufmann, 1994) he moved to Deutsche Post as product manager "Infopost / Werbepost" and since then has passed through various ranks in management. In 2007 Jürgen Gerdes was appointed a member of the group board under the then chairman of the board, Klaus Zumwinkel , and in this function was responsible for the “Mail and Parcel Germany” department. This included the business areas “Mail Communication”, “Direct Marketing”, “Press Distribution”, “Parcel Germany” and “Pension Service”. Gerdes was responsible for the entire mail business, which contributed more than half of the group profit when he took office in 2007. Since late 2008, the region registered letter a profit decline, which is attributed to increasing competition and the decline in letter mail volumes in Germany. In return, the division achieved growth in the parcel area through increasing numbers of shipments from online retail. In 2014, the “Letter and Parcel Germany” division was renamed “Post - eCommerce - Parcel” (PeP).

In April 2018 Gerdes gave up the PeP department and took over the newly created “Corporate Incubations” board department. In June 2018, Jürgen Gerdes and Deutsche Post DHL Group separated after Deutsche Post AG had to publish a profit warning for the 2018 financial year.

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Catholic student association VKDSt Saxonia Münster . In 2017 he received an honorary doctorate from the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management .
