Winners and nominees of the Golden Globe Award in the category Best Screenplay (Best Screenplay - Motion Picture) , which rewards the most outstanding achievements of writers in the previous calendar year. The category was launched in 1948.

In contrast to the Oscars , there is no subdivision according to the original script and adaptation . The winner was later awarded an Oscar 40 times, most recently in 2019 when the award was given to Green Book - A Special Friendship . The rare honor of being nominated for two different scripts in one year was given to the American Francis Ford Coppola ( The Dialogue , The Godfather ) in 1975 and his compatriot William Goldman ( The Marathon Man , The Untouchables ) in 1977 .

A screenwriter from German-speaking countries was able to join the list of winners for the first time in 1949, when Richard Schweizer from Zurich ( The Drawn ) received the award.
