Donald McGill Marshman, Jr. (born December 21, 1922 in Cleveland , Ohio - † September 17, 2015 in Stamford , Connecticut ) was an American screenwriter who received the Oscar for best original screenplay .

Life

Marshman already had great success with his debut , the screenplay for the sarcastic tragedy Boulevard of the Twilight (1950) by Billy Wilder . For this, he not only received the Oscar for the best original screenplay together with Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett at the 1951 Academy Awards , but also the Prize of the Writers Guild of America (WGA Award) for the best written drama and a nomination for the Golden Globe in the category best film script .

In addition to the scripts for the films Taxi (1953) by Gregory Ratoff , here in collaboration with Daniel Fuchs , and Murderer without a mask (1953) by Rudolph Maté , he also wrote adaptations of the screenplay of Boulevard of the Twilight for television series under the title Sunset Boulevard .

Donald McGill Marshman, Jr. died on September 17, 2015 at the age of 92 at Stamford Hospital, Connecticut.
