John Kohn

John Kohn (born November 7, 1925 in New York City , † May 4, 2002 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Kohn took as a gunner in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II in part. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles , he first worked for radio and then turned to screenwriting for television. In the 1960s he also wrote the scripts for several feature films, and he also turned to film production. Kohn moved to Europe in the late 1950s. He worked as a producer for the British company EMI Films, whose US production department he headed from 1979 to 1983.

At the 1966 Academy Awards , he and Stanley Mann were nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for the screenplay for The Catcher . In the same year they were also nominated for the Golden Globe Award .

His last film as a writer and producer, Shanghai Surprise , earned him two nominations for the 1987 Golden Raspberry .

Kohn had been married since 1953. His son Peter Kohn works as an assistant director and producer. John Kohn died of complications from cancer.
