Anthony Shaffer

Anthony Joshua Shaffer (born May 15, 1926 in Liverpool , England , † November 6, 2001 in London , England) was a British playwright and screenwriter .

Life

Anthony Shaffer wrote screenplays for films like Hitchcock's Frenzy and Jon Amiel's Sommersby . He was also a writer of plays , including Revanche (Sleuth) , which was filmed with Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine in the leading roles under the title Murder with small mistakes . In 1971 Shaffer won the Tony Award in the Best Play category for his play Sleuth . His crime comedy has been translated into 14 languages ​​so far.

The Nationaltheater Mannheim performed Shaffer's crime play Sleuth under the title Revanche on January 21, 1973 in a production by Paul Schalich. The two protagonists were Buddy Elias as crime writer Andrew Wyke, and Tom Witkowski in the role of the opponent Milo Tindle.

From 1985 until his death he was married to the actress Diane Cilento for the second time . His first marriage has two children.

His twin brother Peter Shaffer , who died in 2016, was an eminent British playwright.
