Jim Taylor (screenwriter)

Jim Taylor (* 1963 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American screenwriter , film producer and film director who is best known for his collaboration with the filmmaker Alexander Payne for feature films such as Election , About Schmidt and Sideways .

Life

After Jim Taylor attended Bellevue High School , he graduated from Pomona College in 1984 instead of attending the USC School of Cinematic Arts , which previously accepted him as a student. His first job in the film industry was when he started working for Cannon Films in 1987. He later worked for three years for director Ivan Passer and as assistant to television director Devon Foster. Taylor then worked in several odd jobs, he therefore for financial reasons with Alexander Payne , a residential community founded. During this time they became friends and in addition to writing the scripts for some short films, they also started writing the script for Baby Business . After Taylor won money on the game show Wheel of Fortune , the US version of the wheel of fortune , he went back to study at the Tisch School of the Arts , a faculty at New York University , at the age of 30 . During his studies they rewrote the screenplay for Baby Business several times so that it could be produced in his third year of study. Taylor then graduated with a Masters in Film in 1996.

Tylor then shot films such as Election , About Schmidt and Sideways with Payne , all of which were highly praised by both national and international critics and were awarded numerous film prizes. So both were after the year 2000 with Election already an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay received, in 2005 with an Oscar for Sideways excellent.

In 2017, Payne filmed another joint script under the title Downsizing . The science fiction tragicomedy was selected as the opening film of the 74th Venice International Film Festival .

Jim Taylor has been married to actress Tamara Jenkins since 2002 .
