action

The aging actor Willy Clark keeps afloat with small roles that his manager and nephew Ben Clark teaches him free of charge. The uncle is, however, quite demanding and with his choleric nature does not make it easy for his fellow men. One day Ben arranges a meeting with Willy's former partner, Al Lewis.

In contrast to Willy, he is a quiet and level-headed contemporary. It is precisely this trait that upsets Willy and at the time, more than 40 years ago, ensured that the two fell out and their play was canceled. In the end, however, Ben Clark succeeds in getting the two fighters back on stage together, even if the collaboration is just as difficult as it was back then. Willy is so upset about trivialities that he has a heart attack. Even in the hospital bed he tries to keep his line at first. In the end, however, he has to admit to Al Lewis that he was not always right, and the two fighters reconcile.

Reviews

Cinema.de writes: “The Broadway comedy by Neil Simon also impresses in the film with its biting dialog wit. The great George Burns, already 79 years old at the time of filming, received a well-deserved Oscar for best supporting actor. "
