No Coke For Sherlock Holmes is a 1976 British - American film directed by Herbert Ross . The film is based on the book The Seven-Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer from 1974, which appeared in German in 1976 under the same title and was reprinted in 1995 under the title Sherlock Holmes and the Sigmund Freud case .

action

With the help of cocaine, Sherlock Holmes takes refuge in delusions of a super criminal, Professor Moriarty , who, however, was in fact the former head of house of the Holmes family and, as the lover of Holmes' mother, is responsible for their violent death. Dr. Watson and Sherlock's brother Mycroft succeed in luring Holmes to Sigmund Freud's office in Vienna in search of the supposedly volatile Moriarty . This frees him from his addiction and subjects Holmes to a psychoanalysis . In addition, Holmes, Watson and Freud solve a case in the Austrian capital that concerns one of Freud's patients. Holmes teaches Freud the art of close forensic observation. When Watson asks at the end how he should tell this story to his readers, Holmes suggests that he make something up about Holmes' death in the fight with Moriarty, so that the detective can have some quiet before the public. This is a nod to the original story The Final Problem .

Reviews

“It's a pleasure to watch, because the film takes place in the Belle Epoque , the time the Orient Express was created. Good actors, successful decor, a great camera and beautiful costumes ensure the best entertainment in this somewhat different Holmes story. "
