Charles Gray

Charles Gray (born August 29, 1928 in Bournemouth , Dorset , England , † March 7, 2000 in London , England; actually Donald Marshall Gray ) was a British actor .

Life

Gray began in 1952 his career as a theater actor with the role of Charles, the wrestler in William Shakespeare's As You Like It . Since there was already an actor in the ensemble of this production by the name of Donald Gray , he changed his first name based on his role in Charles . He later achieved cinematic fame through two films about the British secret agent James Bond . The curiosity : In You Only Live Twice (1967) he played the Good Guy as Dikko Henderson , in Diamantenfieber (1971) he played the villain as Ernst Stavro Blofeld . In The Spy Who Loved Me from 1977 he could be heard in the original English as the voice of the pyramid event.

From 1966 Gray lent his voice to the actor Jack Hawkins for dubbing after his larynx had been removed as a result of esophageal cancer . In 1975, Gray played the role of narrator on The Rocky Horror Picture Show . In No Coke for Sherlock Holmes (1976) he took on the role of Mycroft Holmes , whom he also played in the 1985 television series Sherlock Holmes produced by Granada Television .

Ava Gardner was one of his closest friends for many years. Charles Gray died of cancer in 2000 . His grave is - like that of Jack Hawkins - on the grounds of the Golders Green Crematorium in London.
