Private life
Eric Roth lives in seclusion in Malibu . He is one of the victims of investment fraudster Bernard L. Madoff and his accomplice Stanley Chais . In the process, he lost all of his retirement savings.
style
Eric Roth has a very idiosyncratic working style. So he continues to write his scripts with an MS-DOS- based program . His work computer has no internet connection. His scripts are only published as bound scripts.
Eric Roth sees himself as a dramaturge. He first tries to visualize both his own scripts and his adaptations in order to optimize them for the cinema. He also tries to immerse himself in the characters' lives. So he converted the short story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald into a very free adaptation. In The Strange Case of Benjamin Button , he processed his own grieving process, as both parents died while writing. Therefore, he describes the film as his most personal. Even with Extrem loud & incredibly close , he took liberties and concentrated on the relationship between Oskar and his grandfather and the associated grief process.
