William Monahan (born November 3, 1960 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American screenwriter , director and writer .

biography

Monahan, who once editor at Spy magazine was made, for the first time in 2005 attention as a screenwriter on when he the script to Ridley Scott's Crusades drama Kingdom of Heaven wrote. This was followed by the collaboration on Martin Scorsese's thriller Departed , in which Leonardo DiCaprio , Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson starred. For his film script for the thriller, which is based on the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs , Monahan won an Oscar and the Writers Guild of America Prize in 2007 .

Several commissions followed in 2007 and 2008, including the fourth part of the Jurassic Park series, which was ultimately filmed with a script by other authors. He made his directorial debut in 2010 with the gangster film London Boulevard , an adaptation of the novel by Ken Bruen of the same name .

In addition to his work as a screenwriter, William Monahan also distinguished himself as a writer with his debut novel Light House: A Triffle (2000). His short stories have been awarded the renowned Pushcart Prize , among others .
