Jack Taylor series
Set in Galway, the Jack Taylor novels tell the story of the adventures and misfortunes of the disgraced former cop Jack Taylor, who lives a life ruined by alcohol and drug abuse as an aimless private detective. The series traces the social change in Ireland during Bruen's lifetime; Particular attention is paid to the decline of the Catholic Church as a social and political power. In addition to the aspect of immigration , Ireland's economic development, which has been flourishing since the beginning of the 1990s, is repeatedly discussed. Often this is portrayed as a force that has transformed Ireland into a mentally emaciated and materialistic society in which deep social inequality still prevails.
The German translations of the Jack Taylor series were provided by Harry Rowohlt , with whom Bruen was also a personal friend. After his death, no further Jack Taylor novels have been published in German.
Between 2010 and 2016, a television crime series based on the Jack Taylor book series was produced with Jack Taylor .
