The Grand prix de littérature policière (German: "Grand Prize for Crime Literature") is a French literary prize that is considered the most important award for works of crime literature . The prize was launched in 1948 by the French detective writer , translator and literary critic Maurice-Bernard Endrèbe (1918–2005). Since then, the best French detective novel and the best foreign detective novel in French translation have been selected every autumn in the categories National and International .

The winners are determined by a jury of up to ten members, which also consists of authors. Each of the jury members puts their favorite new publications over the year for discussion, after which a list of titles is drawn up, on which the jury gives its opinion. Well-known names like Eric Ambler , Didier Daeninckx , Mary Higgins Clark , Elizabeth George , Thomas Harris , Patricia Highsmith , Arnaldur Indriðason , PD James , Léo Malet and Manuel Vázquez Montalbán are among the honored authors of the last decades .
