Michael Gilbert

Michael Francis Gilbert (born July 17, 1912 in Billinghay , Lincolnshire , England , † February 8, 2006 in Luddesdown , Kent , England) was a British writer.

Life

Gilbert was a lawyer in London for many years , and one of his clients was Raymond Chandler . His writing career began in 1938 with the novel Close Quarters (published only in 1947) and ended exactly 60 years later with Over and Out . He wrote every form of mystery and thriller, but did not achieve the international fame of other writers. In 1955 he was awarded the prestigious French literary prize Grand prix de littérature policière for his novel Death in Captivity . In 1990 he received the Anthony Award for his life's work .
