Michael Connelly (born July 21, 1956 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American writer .

Life

While at St. Thomas Aquinas High School , he discovered Raymond Chandler's novels and decided to make a living by writing as well. Connelly studied Journalism and Creative Writing at the University of Florida . From 1980 he worked as a journalist for various newspapers in Florida , where he mainly specialized in crime reports. In 1986, he and two other reporters conducted a series of interviews with survivors of a plane crash in Fort Lauderdale that put him on the Pulitzer Prize nomination list . This got him a job as a police reporter for the prestigious Los Angeles Times . Connelly had thus arrived in the home of Chandler's private investigator Philip Marlowe .

1992 Connelly wrote (dt. The first novel "The Black Echo" Black echo) to the police officer "Hieronymus Bosch", called "Harry". The hero's name said it all. Harry Bosch is a mission-driven moralist who seeks to bring his idea of ​​order into a chaotic world similar to the paintings of the medieval painter of the same name . The novel won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best First Novel by the Mystery Writers of America the following year .

Since then, Connelly has published numerous novels, most of them with Harry Bosch as a hero, as well as several short stories. He has won all major international awards in the crime genre. Today Connelly is one of the most successful authors in the USA, is considered one of the leading representatives of the crime novel and was president of the authors' association Mystery Writers of America from 2003 to 2004 .

In 2000 Connelly produced a television series about computer crime under the title Level 9 . In 2002 Clint Eastwood filmed the novel of the same name with Blood Work , a thriller without Connelly's favorite hero Harry Bosch. In 2010 his novel The Client was made into a film by Brad Furman . The client was shown in German cinemas on June 23, 2011.

Since 2014 Connelly has been executive producer alongside Eric Overmyer and others in the crime series Bosch produced by Amazon Studios , which is based on the Harry Bosch novels of the same name. The series runs there in the 6th season.

Michael Connelly lives with his family in Florida .
