Maltese Falcon Award
The Maltese Falcon Award ( Japanese フ ァ ル コ ン 賞 Farukon Shō , also: Falcon Award , not to be confused with the Norman Falcon Award ) is an international Japanese literary award for crime literature that is also known in Western Europe and the USA . Only novels that follow the tradition of American hard-boiled crime novels are honored.
The award has been presented by The Maltese Falcon Award Society in Japan (TMFS) since 1983 . The choice of the best novel is reserved exclusively for TMFS members. The award - a certificate and a wooden sculpture of the "Maltese Falcon" - reveals the connection to the founder of the hard-boiled novel Dashiell Hammett and his most famous novel, The Maltese Falcon , published in 1930 and filmed several times (including 1941 as " Die Spur des Falken" "with Humphrey Bogart in the lead role as Sam Spade).
